An under-construction railway bridge collapsed on Wednesday morning around 11 am. near Mizoram’s Sairang.
It was gathered that the devastating incident which unfolded just 21 kilometers away from the state capital, Aizawl has claimed no fewer than 17 lives and several others are feared trapped beneath the debris.
A report claimed that at the time of the collapse, a distressing count of 40 construction workers were present on the bridge.
The report further said 17 bodies have so far been recovered from the wreckage, but a sense of dread hangs in the air as many others remain missing.
According to a police officer’s statement the Sairang branch of the Young Mizo Association has stepped in to lead the ongoing rescue efforts.
Trendygists learned that the bridge has been a work in progress for years.
