Matthew Abo, the Commissioner of Information, Culture, and Tourism for Benue State, has been forcibly abducted from his residence in Zaki-Biam, nestled within the Ukum Local Government Area of the state.
Matthew Abo, who commenced his tenure as a member of the Benue State Executive Council on August 29, 2023, fell victim to this brazen abduction in an area plagued by criminal activities.
Eyewitness accounts paint a distressing picture of the commissioner’s abduction, orchestrated by armed assailants arriving at his residence on four motorcycles.
In a harrowing ordeal, they ordered everyone present, including his wife and children, to lay prostrate on the ground before spiriting him away to an undisclosed location on one of the motorcycles.
As this heinous act was reported to local law enforcement, the Benue State Police Command has yet to provide an official response.
Kula Tersoo, Chief Press Secretary to the state Governor, confirmed the abduction, conveying the chilling details: “Unfortunately, he (the commissioner) was kidnapped in his country home in Ukum LGA, around 8 pm on Sunday, September 24, 2023. He was in his home with his family, children, and his people when the armed men came in. They forced him onto a bike.”
In response, Governor Hyacinth Alia has swiftly directed security forces to employ every resource at their disposal to secure the safe release of Commissioner Matthew Abo from the clutches of his kidnappers. The community and the entire state collectively hold their breath, yearning for news of his safe return.
