Bauchi Central Senator Abdul Ningi Returns to Senate After Suspension

Senator representing Bauchi Central, Abdul Ningi, finally returned to the upper legislative chambers on Tuesday after being suspended for 75 days, for remarks accusing lawmakers of budget padding.

Ningi had first suspended for three months, on March 12, 2024, as a result of comments he made in a radio show in which he accused the Senate of padding the budget.

The lawmaker claimed that he was quoted out of context and insisted that there are differences between the budget passed by Parliament and what the executive arm of government implemented.

In a resignation letter signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Abubakar Mohammed, Ningi, who is the Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum (NSF), a group of law makers in the National Assembly, had quit his position just after the suspension.

the senator returned from his suspension after a motion sponsored by the minority leader, Senator Abba Moro, on behalf of the minority caucus called for the cancellation of his suspension.
