Deadly Riots In Port Morebys And Lae In Papua New Guinea Leave At Least 16 Dead

Violent riots in Port Moresby and Lae leave at least 16 dead, prompted the Prime Minister to declare a state of emergency.

The unrest, initially triggered by police and military protests over salary deductions, has spiraled into widespread looting and violence.

Trendygists learned that eight fatalities were reported in the capital, Port Moresby, while an additional seven were reported in the northern city of Lae.

Prime Minister James Marape, alongside Australia’s Anthony Albanese, issued appeals for calm as scenes of violence unfolded on the streets, leaving the cities engulfed in black smoke.

More police officers have been deployed to restore order, with the Prime Minister assuring that tensions in the capital have subsided.
