Police Were Right To Tear Gas Mohbad’s Protesters – BBNaija’s Tacha Says

Well-known Big Brother Naija star, Tacha Akide has weighed in on the recent events at the Lekki Phase 1 toll gate, where the Nigerian police deployed tear gas to disperse Mohbad’s protesters.

The incident, which unfolded just yesterday, has sparked considerable controversy due to reports of injuries sustained by some of the protesters as a result of the tear gas deployment.

Taking to her Instagram account on Friday, Tacha urged the public to exercise caution when sharing information about the incident.

She stated that the protest organizers had given the permission to disperse once the demonstration had concluded. However, Tacha pointed out that some of the protesters chose to remain at the location, effectively transforming what was originally meant to be a tribute and a call for justice for Mohbad into a protest.

According to Tacha, it was this shift in the nature of the gathering that prompted the Nigerian police to intervene.

She stated;

“We can all agree that the organisers said you can all go home. Everybody saw when this event ended yesterday; you saw the celebrity leave; you saw everybody going, but no, some people decided to pack themselves to Lekki toll gate.

“If you want to protest, it’s not an issue, but a lot of people did not come out to protest. If you want to protest, fix a date, get the date approved by the goverment and then you can go out.

“Like stop changing the narrative; they started early and ended early; they told everybody to go home, but no, you people want to bring up issues where there is no issue.

“Kudos to the Nigerian police, you people tried, cause I saw video of them begging people to go home, but people want to hijack a candle-light procession for a brother of ours that died, and you want people to come online and support you, im sorry. “
